Memories of Hyrule
A Zelda fangame by Ephraim225

Across all eras, the heroes of time, the winds, and twilight battle the forces of darkness, and protect the realm of light. However, as each villain falls, the realm outside of time becomes an amalgamation of all time periods. Now, the twenty-four pieces of the Triforce have been scattered across the realm outside time, hiding within plain sight from the darkness. To return the realm to normal, the power of the Triforce must be found and re-assembled!

Welcome to Memories of Hyrule! This is a short fangame developed in celebration of Tears of the Kingdom's announced release date. TOTK is set to be the 20th mainline Zelda game (Well, if you count BS Zelda, anyways. Which I do.) It is largely inspired by Metal Gear Solid V's Deja Vu mission, in which Snake must discover re-created scenes from the original Metal Gear Solid. This game's goal is similar in nature.

Default controls:

Movement - Arrow keys
Attack/Talk - X
Item 1 - A
Item 2 - S
Item 3 - D
Start/Pause - Space bar

Quick Reset - F10
Take Screenshot - F12

Save files, config files, and screenshots are saved to C:\Users\(Name)\AppData\Local\LOZTearsOfNostalgia

Equipping items works just like the 3D games. Pause, highlight an item, and press an item button to equip it to that button. The Sheikah Slate can be used to travel and view game hints.

You can edit the controls from the file select menu. Gamepads and keyboards are supported.
Completion: Full Game Genre: Adventure
Franchise: Legend of Zelda

Update History
01/20/24  Similar to the update for my other game, this update was built in GMS2, as it appears the GMS1 build has problems on newer devices. Everything should work okay now, but a legacy build is also included in the download just in case. Message me about any fur
04/27/23  A couple more bugs were reported to me including a bug with saving and a softlock. They have been fixed.

I really enjoyed this! This is probably the best Zelda fangame I've played. I like the big world to explore and the wide variety of items.

I noticed a few bugs:

* The game crashes whenever an arrow hits obj_grass
* The sword sprite on the HUD shows a signpost sprite if Link is standing in range of a sign or other object you can talk to
* If you explore the Lost Woods without playing Saria's Song, Link will move out of the camera's range, probably forcing you to warp away or close the game
* I'm not sure if this is intentional, but it's annoying that the game automatically saves after you collect a Triforce piece but not after you collect a new item

Also, the Hookshot is overpowered compared to the Fairy Bow. The Hookshot does the same amount of damage as the Fairy Bow but doesn't have any cooldown - you can spam the Hookshot over and over again. In the official Zelda games, the Hookshot and its cousins are usually weak weapons for stunning enemies rather than defeating them.

Nitpicks aside, this is a great game that I highly encourage checking out.

I started playing, picked up the sword, got a cutscene, and then got this error, after which the game crashed:
